Hey, I’m Sophie
I set up Do Good Research in 2021 - and it’s just me.
It’s a great thing that more people want to do user research in teams. But over the past few years, this increase in demand has led to common challenges around research ethics, rigour and safety. This not only impacts the people taking part, but also individual researchers and ultimately the products and services we design.
I've set up Do Good Research so we can co-create standards and share practical guidelines on what makes good user research.
Our mission is to help us all do good research, to keep people safe and design better services. We hold space for having difficult conversations and sharing learnings; so that more researchers are supported, organisations are prepared and our practice improves.
I’m available for freelance projects directly through Do Good Research Ltd. Recently I’ve worked with the UK Health Security Agency, Homeless Link, Lloyd’s Banking Group and PlayStation - conducting research with users and helping teams think in a new way about their service.
I also deliver training for teams on research challenges. My expertise is in health, researching sensitive topics (eg. bereavement, mental health), ethics, data protection, ResearchOps, interviewing, usability testing, content strategy and user experience (UX).
Do Good Research is creating a movement to standardise the industry, by bringing people together. If you are interested in this too, please get in touch ❤️
About me
I care about using design to make a positive impact in the world.
Since 2014, I’ve been working in design agencies, government and now freelance; carrying out research to help make services more human.
My career in user experience began at Nomensa and I’ve since worked at Department of Health and Social Care (NHSX) as their first user researcher; followed by the design studio Snook.
Causes I care about are health, travel, music, children and young people, women, trauma and homelessness. When I’m not working on Do Good Research; I enjoy singing, yoga and massage therapy.
I’m now based in Liverpool. If you are also based in the North West - please reach out as I’d love to connect with others who work in design up here too!
